What is eroticism? What separates it from pornography? Lately there has been some talk here about photography and authors like Aaron Hawks, Nan Goldin or Vlastimil Kula, who have walked that line or even crossed it. Great photographers such as Man Ray, Edward Steichen and Richard Avedon may not have crossed that line, but pictures they took of women such as Marilyn Monroe, Lauren Bacall or Catherine Deneuve are truly disturbing. Where is eroticism? In the eye of the photographer, in the model or in something fleeting, ghost-like that the camera was able to capture?
Man Ray used to say: Nature does not create works of art. We, with our peculiar ability to interpret the human brain, are the ones who see art.
