Frida Kahlo

Frida Kahlo (1907-1954) was a mexican artist who painted mostly self-portraits, in which she used fantasy and a style inspired in her her country's popular art. At the age of 16, while she was still a student, she had a serious accident. While she was recovering, she started painting.

Her paintings essentially represent her own personal experiences, especially the most painful moments of her life, that was spent bed-ridden for the most part. Through her work, she expressed the disintegration of her body and the terrible suffering she endured, obvious in paintings such as "La Columna Rota" ("The Broken Column"), 1944.

In 2002, Julie Taymor directed the movie "Frida", that, aside from the beautiful scrip, has a luxurious sondtrack and an excellent cinematography.
