In Japan, vending machines are commonplace and there are loads of them. It is estimated that there are 23 of them per inhabitant, a truly remarkable number! What is also impressive is the fact they are always in working order, it is rare for them to be broken or vandalised. These machines sell everything and the creativity with which this is done is disconcerting...

It is normal to see sets of machines instead of one single unit, perhaps owing to lack of space... :) There are a few curious details, such as the existence of a recycling bin next to a vending machine selling drink cans. Many of them sell tobacco (Japan is one of the countries with the biggest number of smokers) as well as alcohol, only running from 6am to 11pm.

The offer is amazing and it's hard to find something these machines won't actually sell. Did the batteries in your digital camera run out? Do you want to buy someone flowers? Would you like to buy fresh eggs? Perhaps some porn magazines? And why not lingerie? In Japan, you can find anything, all you need to do is google it.
