american graffiti in Iraq

Cultural invasion seems to be one of the most effective means of domination. Every day, we watch powerlessly, the proliferation of popcorn in movie theatres, fast food, Walt Disney cartoons, etc, symbols and practices straight out of the american way of life. However, there are other little known facts. For example, the extended stay of american troops in Iraq has already started to produce a strong cultural impact in the country, as the soldiers take some of their habits with them - one of them being the spraying of walls, cars, etc: the graffiti.

Actually, graffitti, as an urban art form or as sheer vandalism, is currently a big part of the american culture, and soldiers in Iraq cultivate it by spraying walls, rocks, vehicles unselfconsciously, just like at home. They do it both slyly and openly, with their superior's permission. Some of them even take pictures of their 'work' to send home. There are thousands of them all over the Internet.
