Whoever gets close to the sports complex where the Olympic Games will take place, will stumble into a huge, colourful and sparkly facade. The GreenPix is named appropriately, as it is powered exclusively by a system of photovoltaic cells, which transforms solar light into energy, during the day. At night, that energy is used to light up thousands of small LEDs, that come together to form a colossal flat screen. Aside from that, the glass wall follows daylight's nuances, in a true solar cycle. Gorgeous.
The GreenPix works in the same way as a giant TV screen, where you can broadcast anything, from commercials to movies. However, there's a use its Italian creators Simone Giostra & Partners, wouldn't have done without: digital art. And thus, when it starts working, this month, various videos and other performances by European, American and Chinese artists will be broadcast. Let's hope the atmospheric pollution and the cloudiness don't decrease its energetic efficiency.
