 Design Flexibility Functional Furniture

Modular furniture systems are not new. Versatile, light, of sober and pleasing lines, easy to carry, assemble and clean, they have become a paradigm in modern furniture design. Besides, the most recent trends offer, not only a set of pieces with various available combinations, they also allow you to choose from a range of finishings and coatings. A mix of normalisation with the possibility of customization. It was within this philosophy that Dekast appeared, an interesting design proposal by Michel Doyer.

The design is disturbingly simple: a series of parallelepiped modules in plywood, dishevelled in an orthogonal grid creating shelves. This harsh base is open to games of colour and texture, done using the revetment of the frontal pannels with fabric. It's in the combination of both these elements that the originality of this system lies. The fabrics, in wool and cotton, are created by the Danish company Kvadrat (already mentioned here for its famous pixel sofa). A deliciously retro look and also expensive, as it seems (450 euros a module)...
