Sculptures by Pierre Matter

Pierre Matter's strange sculptures are a result of an unusual combination of copper, aluminium, bronze, rubber and other materials. They are biomorphic, dynamic shapes of retro, gothic or steampunk taste, that sometimes look like they are made out of junk. They could have come out of a Jules Verne book or an old sci-fi movie. Matter himself explains his works of art saying they reflect the consciousness of living in a time of fusion between Nature and Technology. "Even cows are no more than milk-making machines", he remarks. From such an alliance, hybrid, monstrous beings are born, evoking (and going beyond) mythology, while paradoxically seeming to refuse the power that seems to be given to them by technology; they can fall apart anytime.
