It's with a mix of wonder and disdain that a mere mortal looks at the audiophiles' sound equipments (those with exceptional sound quality and suitable price). Wonder because a powerful amplifier or a set of electrostatic panel speakers -- it's an inevitable conclusion -- enforce respect; disdain because they can't see (better, they can't hear) a great difference from a common equipment -- or something that could justify the price. But it's impossible to ignore a turntable like this, made with astonishing conception and design...
Vinyl records are coming back because of their high sound fidelity. Then, as so many others, the prestigious German brand Montegiro is presenting several high-quality turntables, such as Legno, Vivo or Mondo. But its recent Lusso exceeded all the expectations.
A minimalistic conception: an inverted cone body composed by alternated aluminum and black acrylic layers supports the vinyl records. At its side, two similar cones -- one with a high precision motor that triggers the plate and other with a carbon fiber arm which supports the reading head. The top version, showed at the pictures, has another cone with another arm. I'd love to listen the sound which comes from the spirals of a good vinyl like this but, unfortunately, I gave up because of its price: $47 000 USD (€30 000) for the basic model.
